Welcome to Aspire Academy
We are an Alternative Provision Academy, proudly serving young people across Hull and the East Riding, with our main site based in East Hull. Many of our students arrive with us carrying a difficult history with education — perhaps they’ve been excluded from mainstream school, or mainstream school simply wasn’t the right fit for who they are. Often, by the time they reach us, they’ve stopped believing that school has much to offer them. Sometimes they’ve stopped believing in themselves.
That is where our journey together begins.
Before anything else — before a single lesson — our students need to feel something they may not have felt in a school before: that they belong here, that they are accepted exactly as they are, and that someone has time for them. We take a trauma-informed approach, which simply means we start with empathy and understanding, not judgement. We want to understand each child’s story, because once a young person feels safe and accepted, they can begin to make sense of themselves and the world around them — and that is when real learning can start.
Our curriculum is built around each individual student, not the other way around. We draw on the national curriculum alongside a broad and flexible range of pathways, shaped to engage each young person and help them grow — academically and personally. Progress looks different for every child, and every bit of it is worth celebrating, however small it might seem at the time.
What I want most for our students is for them to leave us believing in themselves — often for the first time. Many arrive not recognising that they have any strengths at all. Part of our job is to help them find them. We want every young person who walks through our doors to discover what they’re good at, build the confidence and resilience to keep going when things are hard, and start to see a future for themselves that they can genuinely look forward to. We want them to grow into well-rounded young adults who know they have a place in the world — because they do, and we won’t stop showing them that until they believe it too.
We support our students at every step, including the transition into post-16 education, training or employment, so the progress they make with us continues well beyond their time here.
None of this would be possible without our staff, and I could not be prouder of them. They work tirelessly, often facing real challenges, and they show up for our students every single day — sometimes without seeing the difference they’re making until much further down the road. Every child at Aspire has at least one Emotionally Available Adult, and usually more than one person they know they can turn to. The relationships our staff build are, I believe, the heart of everything we do here.
We work closely with a wide range of professionals and partners to support our students, and we are always open to new partnerships that help us do this better.
Aspire is, and will continue to be, a place where young people are accepted, supported, and given every chance to discover who they can become.
